Hi Larry, We have both an LSR-II and an Aria on a University network. We even have an old Vantage/Diva on the network. It's nothing special, just connected through a 2nd network card as you describe. I don't think we've experienced any problems due to it. The network load is not much compared to the cytometer data stream. Just in case, though, we do not do much browsing while collecting data or sorting. The Windows firewall likely will be a problem for the cytometer connection if you activate it. In our case, the campus network is firewalled. We also run a virus scanner (McAfee) with no trouble, and of course, keep our Windows patches up to date. Good luck!
