Dear Flowers Investigating whole blood samples from healthy children I am puzzled by a tiny subpopulation of CD45RA+ CD62L CD8+ T lymphocytes which are positive for granzyme A/B or perforin. I also noted that these cells are CD28-. I find this subpopulation in many, but not all, healthy donors. Making "super- tight" CD45RA/CD62L gates does not "eliminate" this population. Furthermore, I am aware that "truly" naive CD8+ T are defined by more than CD45RA and CD62L/CCR7 (CD11a, CD27; De Rosa et al. 2001). My question is: what are these granzyme A+ CD28- CD45RA+ CD62L+ CD8+ T? Activated effector cells, "early" T central memory, "terminally differentiated"... CD8+ T lymphocytes? I appreciate very much your comments, Kind regards Gerlinde -- Gerlinde Obermoser, MD Department of Dermatology Innsbruck Medical University Anichstrasse 35, 6020 Innsbruck, AUSTRIAReceived on Thu Apr 17 11:58:00 2008
