Hello everyone:

Here is a summary of the replies regarding sorting LCMV. Many thanks
for your responses.

All my best,

Sorry for the late reply. When I sort LCMV I do so on a FACSAria with
the BD provided aerosol containment unit on in a BSL-3. I also wear a
gown, double gloves, goggles, surgical face mask, and face shield. Let
me know if you have any other questions.

I would have to check to be sure, but LCMV is definitely an aerosol
contaminant and should probably be BSL-3 in any situation where it has a
high probability of aerosolization like flow. I would at least put your
people in full face masks if the machine can't be in a laminar-flow
containment hood or something similar....

Just my $.02 - not official CDC position...

I can ask our field guys here what they recommend for infected
premises, but I'm pretty sure they would recommend a PAPR for a known or
suspected infected premise....	Let me know....

We do it all the time here and it's been approved by our in-house
biohazard review board...just treat it as a "hot" BSL2.......standard BD
aerosol containment with the Whisper (R2D2 unit)...decon the machine

afterwards...been doing the LCMV sorts for about 5 yrs. My

understanding of the pathology says that unless you are very young, very
old, or immune compromised, there is no real worry....worst case
scenario says flu-like symptoms (which I have now due to my daughter in
pre-school).
