You should have found the answer below in the archive: Perhaps a few practical hints on how to drag and drop might help: Open winmdi Open file manager Tile the two programs (in most cases, tiling is most useful when only 2 windows are tiled. But what if you have more than 2 open windows, but you only want to tile 2 of them Press Ctrl + click each button on the taskbar to select it, right-click one of the selected buttons, then click the appropriate item from the context menu. When the windows are tiled, you can drag the borders of the windows to change their sizes.) Under Microsoft windows you locate your files using file manager revealing the full length of your file name. Mark the file of interest by pointing at it with the cursor, hold the left mouse button and drag it over your winmdi plot. Let go of the left mouse button and the data will be displayed. If you have not tiled the display and you have the file manager on full screen you drag your files over the WINMDI icon in the taskbar and wait a bit for it to open the window and drop it then. To get a functional display or the file list dialog mentioned below you need to have opened one file originally via the short file name in DOS so you have built up a valid plot. If you import a sequence of files into the list dialog they should appear in the same order as if sorted by filename, but you can always verify that by dragging a single file across. If you have a number of displays that you want to update altogether you drag and drop the file in the file list window ( ctrl-L) and then update all plots (alt page-down) but try to have only one file name in the file list. The software just can't handle the long file names. Mostly nothing but nice. I still have a question about an esthetical annoyance. I save my data (FCS-files) to a memory stick, copy it to my hard disk from which I open the files with WinMDI. But in the WinMDI-menu 'Open Dotplot' I see the strangest characters in the names of folders or even names of files. For instance : a file which was recorded on the FACS Canto was named 'trial1 + CD49f-PE' (as well as on memory stick and hard disk) appeared as 'TRIAL~62.FCS' in that 'Open dotplot' menu. Another example : 'Trial 1 eluate' was changed into 'TRIAL~YH.FCS' I sometimes even see dollarsymbols in the filenames. In fact it is not that big problem since sequence of read samples keeps remained but it would be nicer if the original given names could be maintained. Any suggestions or help? Thank you veruy much of course, gert Gert De Block VUB Faculteit Geneeskunde & Farmacie Navorsing Embryologie/Genetica Laarbeeklaan 101 1090 Brussel Tel.02/477.46.44 Fax.02/477.46.35 Private: gert.deblock@pandora.be -----Original Message----- From: Katherina Garcia Garcia [mailto:kgargar@upo.es] Sent: 01 December 2005 10:22 To: cyto-inbox Subject: Doubts About WinMDI software Hi: I have some doubts about WinMDI. In our laboratory we have a FACSAria and the FACSDiva software. But we can only use this program in the cytometer computer. In others computers we use WinMDI to analize cytometry´s data. I have a problem: I record data from the FACSDiva in FCS 2.0 format. When I look at them in the WinMDI the name of the experiments and the name of each specimen or tube change (the names are not complete or appears rare symbols). Because of this we can´t know wich experiment or sample we want to display in the WinMDI. This information appears when we choose a sample and display Stats view, but maybe it is not the sample I am interested and I have to start again, choose another sample and... I hope you can help me. Maybe I have to change the type of letter (we use Arial to name the experiments) or name the experiments with only 3 characters. I don´t know.... Thanks a lot. Sorry about my english, I´m spanish speaker. Katherina García García Centro Andaluz de Biología del Desarrollo Seville, Spain kgargar@upo.esReceived on Tue Dec 6 11:18:00 2005
