viable cells - sorting

On behalf of a colleague I'm posting this:

I am looking for a marker for dead and/or apoptotic cells, which can be used
in cell sorting and that is not taken up by viable cells even after hours of
incubation. Furthermore, I would like to have comments on how such probe may
affect down-stream applications that uses RNA from the sorted cells.
