If I were to walk into my facility and see that, I'd probably blow a gasket. 
I  have one analyzer and if that were out of commission for that reason, the 
rest of the natives would be very hostile.   Sounds to me like they have 
over-stayed their welcome and need to buy their own machine and not screw up 
your facility.

First off, what was the compound and isotope used?   That will tell you a 
lot.  Second, they should have fully informed you of their intentions.
