The Ordway Research Institute in Albany, New York is looking for a flow cytometry technician for the Flow Cytometry Core Laboratory (http://www.ordwayresearch.org/flow_cytometry.html <http://www.ordwayresearch.org/flow_cytometry.html> ). This facility is located in the Ordway Cancer Center and serves researchers in the Center for Medical Science, as well as Albany Medical College, New York State Dept. of Health/Wadsworth Center, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The laboratory is equipped with a Becton-Dickinson LSR-2 flow cytometer and a BD FACS Aria high-speed cell sorter. Primary duties will include: * Operation and maintenance of the cell sorter and analyzers. * Train research personnel in practical flow cytometry. * Advise scientists on cell preparation and staining techniques for flow cytometric analysis and sorting to ensure proper experimental design and data interpretation. * Assist in the development of novel flow cytometry based assays. * Integrate and apply flow cytometric assays with high-throughput screening processes of drug discovery (in conjunction with the Target and Drug Discovery Facility) * Opportunities also exist for independent research projects. Candidates with experience in flow cytometry are preferred, but an inexperienced candidate that is bright and enthusiastic would also be considered. Laboratory experience in cell preparation and staining, immunology, and cell cycle analysis techniques would be appreciated.
